µ-law Audio Compressor

The model compresses a real amplitude i_x between -1.0 and +1.0. This is a simulation model, not synthesizable RTL.

Behaviour

• clamp the input to [-1.0, +1.0];
• apply sign(x) * log(1 + µ * abs(x)) / log(1 + µ);
• use µ = 255.0;
• preserve the sign;
• produce a real output o_y in [-1.0, +1.0].
